Is there a reason why

..while everyone seems to listen to lyrics, I listen to the actual music? I mean, I do hear the lyrics but I don't exactly pay attention to the meaning behind them because I just naturally seem to focus on the music itself first. I pay attention to the strum of a guitar, the beat of drums and bass, the harmony of the strings, the melody of a piano and the actual singing. The meaning of the words sung literally just go in one ear and out the other. Wasted effort of a lyricist.

...while people seem to further analyze events and symbols in novels and such, I only pay attention to plot? Or perhaps this is the consequence of being in an English honors class. In my spare time, I usually read stories for plot - a book doesn't capture my attention with its mere "symbolism". I mean honestly, that sounds kind of stupid to me but I still have only a little bit of this quarter to go so I might as well struggle to find some "deeper meaning". I think the only reason why I have been able to receive fairly impressive grades on my English essays so far is because I try my best to pick topics where I sort of spill my heart out. I try to find topics that I think about and talk about with others a lot. Perhaps this is why I've never considered anything close to something like an English major.

I guess I'm just that shallow.
