Yeep so today in Japanese class we made this... well we didn't make it - Ms. Howard cooked the rice and mixed the furikake stuff and we just used 'ceramic wrap' to mold clumps of rice into triangle things. But they taste really good! They were nice and warm and had nice flavor to it :]
So after making the onigiri, I decided that once I got home, I would make my own! And so I did.. except it was nothing like the ones we made in class.. (it was better! haha I wish D: )
The rice at our house was kind of hard, so before I warmed it up I added water so that the rice might absorb the water to be less hard - but in the end, it ended up kind of like 稀飯 =囗=.... Seeing that I couldn't really do anything about it - I just continued to make the onigiri (I should have just saved the 稀飯 for my dinner - -)
This is the furikake mix thing I added to my onigiri D:
I thought it had "爸搜" in it, but it didn't = =. So no meat haha. But I knew this kind of furikake would taste kind of bland, so I decided to add in some CHOPPED EGGS! Haha... it made the rice a BIT stiffer... but it was still kind of 稀飯-y :[
Here is the rice and furikake and egg :
It looks pretty yucky D:
So it took a while to mix... since I made it wayy to sticky - -"... and then I made my first onigiri at home which was kind cold and didn't even look like an onigiri .. After making two fail onigiris, I got lazy, and so I just got out my ice cream scoop and tried to make little rice balls - but that didn't work either because the ice cream scoop we have at home sucks. So I molded them myself with another 'ceramic wrap', and then made one last onigiri...
"Tadaa?".... Looks so gross D: The white chunky stuff is the outside of the egg = =" And so yea I basically ate it just like rice on a plate almost... except it was cold and tasted reeeeally bland. So I warmed it up high again, and THEN the flavor came out.
I knew food had to be hot for it to taste good, but I never thought I'd have to experience the mistake like this x____x... Well I finished all of it in an hour kind of unconciously, haha.
I WILL make onigiri again! Just ... not so in a rush and with fresh, not-so-sticky rice right out of the rice cooker and some better things to mix in.
Obviously, I wasn't trying to take very good pictures :P
