So it's only been two weeks I haven't been using tumblr (I think I have around eight weeks left). If I could be honest for a second, I am still checking tumblr daily for two reasons:
- I have to check my medium format tumblr once in a while because there are complaints for different reasons.
- There's this tumblr where I jot down tons of quotes and lyrics for future typography use.
Other than those two reasons, I haven't been scrolling through my dashboard or legitimately using tumblr. But I started thinking, have I really gotten anything out of tumblr within the past two to three years I've been using it?
I follow a lot of Christian blogs, but it's improbable for me to grow in Christ through simply tumblr - and I haven't, either (not through Tumblr, at least). Tumblr does have a collection of some of the most beautiful photographs, but I could easily find them via flickr. In fact, a large majority of photographs posted onto Tumblr come from flickr anyways. Tumblr doesn't exactly allow me to revel in my wanderlust, flickr does. But Tumblr sort of organizes and compiles things together so that I can discover new places to discover, new foods to eat, etc... All these amazing and inspiring quotes reblogged and such - I don't really remember them either. I also don't exactly make friends through tumblr - there have been only two people on tumblr who I've talked with outside of tumblr.
I think the number one thing I really like about Tumblr is discovering new music. Through tumblr, I've been able to discover many amazing songs and artists, and I love love discovering new music that makes me reluctant to put my headphones down. Tumblr also allows me to be extremely updated with current events, see what my friends' current interests are, learn about things I'd probably never learn at school or on TV, and makes me laugh once in a while. I also do get some ideas for typography via Tumblr as well.
So perhaps, that's what I'll do when I go back to Tumblr (not a matter of 'if', but 'when'.. haha) - just post music, news, funny things, and typography (and photography on my other blogs...). Everything else I see is pretty much pointless.
