First day on the job

I still haven't exactly recovered from SANP, and I'm still super tired so I'm just going to type this one out.

If you don't know yet, I am a little bakery assistant girl of the city's best Sheng Kee bakery. I went in at 9:00 in the morning and had to start filling the shelves in with the breads and all. And it was confusing because I didn't know the names of any of the breads. And I was filling them in too slow because well I'm like a first-timer but I guess I'm glad that most of the people there had patience for me.

Since Sheng Kee is mostly canto, they use a lot of canto slang. If I translated it into English, it would be "Up little wraps" and "Little rest". Except in Chinese, it sounds a LOT more vague. "Up little wraps" actually means to fill the shelves up with bread, and "little rest" just means to take a short break. But no one really says anything like that in Taiwan. Even my own mother was confused. But I guess this shows how good my Chinese is haha to be able to understand their weird slang (just kidding).

Smelling bakery stuff the whole day makes you feel full. Even if you haven't eaten anything. Seriously. And at the end of my shift, I realized I had pretty much been standing for five hours straight.

I also had to cut bread! It was kind of scary at first, and the lady showing me how to slide the bread into the wrappers made it seem like magic or something. And she was very aggressive and very sharp towards customers .____. but the good thing about her aggresiveness is that she gets things done fast haha. The key to doing stuff in the kitchen and all is to be fast, yet to make it all look nice - which is actually a lot harder than it seems.

There was actually this other teenager/young adult there that helped me a lot. I forgot her name already. But we can't even socialize much at the bakery anyways because we always have to be constantly moving around dealing with the pastries and breads and stuff.

And I know what danish pastries look like now! And I remember some of the names of the breads now. In English it's easy, but Chinese? ohohoho. My chinese kind of improved a bit since that was the only language I could speak in for five hours. Heh. But then my English is going to have a weird accent now. I think I'm going to listen to some BBC haha.

Customers kept asking me about cakes and ingredients and I was like ahh I don't know let me go ask someone or can you go ask so and so? How embarassing... because all I know how to do is put the bread on the shelves and cut bread haha...................

I don't expect too much for my first paycheck haha I sucked today.
