Social Media

In the past years, especially during high school, I would refrain from using social media such as Facebook and tumblr and such while I studied for finals.  Now, I don't do that so much.

I'm mostly not on Facebook because I generally just don't use Facebook that often, unless there are friend requests I need to accept or update my photography page.  I still check everyday for notifications, though.  I just don't do much about them.

Tumblr, however, I am intent on checking everyday.  With this revolutionary website, I can stay up-to-date on current events, and kindle my inspiration as a musician and photographer.  I can as well be reminded of scripture and my Father in Heaven.  And like Facebook, with Tumblr I can also keep up with friends - what they're doing, what they're up to, their current interests, etc...  With tumblr, I've also made friends across cities, states, and oceans.

This isn't a post praising Tumblr or anything, as it may seem.  Rather, going back to my first point of restraining myself from using social media, this year, this time, I've refused to do so.

I've begun to grow quite a hatred for school and the United State's education system and facade-like business world.  A small part of it definitely stems from me not being able to acquire any internships from the on-campus interviews.  However, honestly, I wasn't looking forward to these interviews or internships is such giant corporations, as all the interviewers could probably tell.

Especially being able to see my own boyfriend earn more than my mother or father did in on year without a degree or without finishing schooling, and being able to discern that it's who you know and not what you know that gets you further in this world, school seems almost pointless to me now.  Don't get me wrong, I love learning - just the things I like learning though.  Degrees help, but they're not everything.  Good grades help, but are not worth your sleep, I think.

There are just so many more meaningful things out there and more important things to worry about.  And I should not be fretting over school to the point where I deprive myself of the social media that can give me access to these meaningful and important things.
