Alice's Summerthing June 2011 @ San Francisco's Golden Gate Park!

SO. I'm going to blog like I always do - while my YouTube videos are loading!

From the very beginning -
I follow OneRepublic on twitter, and one of their tweets was something around seeing us all in Chicago and San Francisco. So I was like WHAT? SAN FRANCISCO? And their website doesn't keep up with their venue dates much, either so I was like asking around (actually, just tumblr-ing around) and I found out that they were going to be performing at this event called Alice's Summerthing. So I looked it up and found out that it was an even hoste by the radio station Alice 97.3 (which I listen to quite often, actually. I don't understand why I didn't hear of this event on the radio) and that OneRepublic was not going to be the only performers - there was also Michelle Branch, Parachute, Matt Nathanson, and this guy I have never heard of named Andrew Allen (who was actually pretty good).

Then I had the problem of okay I need someone to accompany me. After much asking around, I found out that my friend Kate and her brothers needed a ride to SF for the Summerthing! So I was like OMG LET ME TAKE AND LET'S GO TOGETHER AND CATCH UP! So yeah I'm glad I got to see Kate today :)

We left Cupertino around 9:40 ish and got to the edge of the park around 10:45, which I thought was too late. But we went to the field where the concert was supposedly going to take place, and there weren't too many people there - we got a picnic spot probably 100 feet away from the stage. Kate and her brothers were so prepared! It was amazing, haha. We ate lunch early because the show was supposed to start at 12:00, and after eating lunch we went up to the stage around 11:50. We also ran into a few old classmates/friends!

SO the show started and if the area had rows, Kate, Thomas (her brother), and I were probably second row, so we were SUPER close to the stage, which was obviously incredible. The way the acts went were probably like least well known to most well known or something. So this Andrew Allen guy was first and then OneRepublic was last.

The first performer was this unknown singer (or not very well-known) named Andrew Allen. He looked nice, like handsome-nice, not hot-nice (for me, anyways...). And he sings really well live! He was really good at guitar and I wonder why he isn't really famous yet. Perhaps he just started out and is slowly working his way up there! He was really nice and cool. He doesn't have a facebook page so I can't like him on faceook.

The second performer was Parachute! I thought Matt Nathanson or Michelle Branch would probably be second but I guess Parachute ... was. Will Anderson was kind of crazy, I have to admit. I seriously think he was drunk. He was playing on the piano and his tongue was hanging out like a dog and he was even painting like a dog! His whole face was red and he didn't really shave (and neither did Matt Nathanson...). But he has SUPER pretty eyes! Just standing probably 20 feet from him, his eyes just stood out so much! He came near the crowd twice and both times I touched him twice! HAHA. Once with my left hand and once with my right hand hahaha. But don't worry I only touched his arms/hands. At the end he threw his water bottle into the crowd which he didn't even open yet. And I kind of caught it and then I guess Kate's brother Thomas helped catch it for me haha! We didn't bring up any water to the stage so we just drank from this water bottle we caught LOL. So I now I have this empty bottle of water that was supposed to be Will Anderson's, haha!

NEXT was Michelle Branch, who ... hopefully this won't be offensive, but I guess calmed things down a bit. Her entire performance was acoustic which was nice I guess. No one has really heard of her for a while! And she kind of recently started a family and her bass player was her husband! So yeah she played a few of her classic songs for us - which was nice. And her sunglasses were on most of time and these guys wanted to see her eyes so they shouted very loudly WE WANT TO SEE YOUR EYES. But Michelle Branch didn't really hear the last word and just heard the "ssss" part of it so she thought they said something else haha.... But she's coming up with a new album soon! I miss her music - I look foward to hearing her new album in the fall!

So Andrew Allen first, then Parachute, then Michelle Branch. OneRepublic is obviously last, so you can guess who was the second to last performer. Matt Nathanson began to perform and he looked like a werewolf! So much facial hair not shaved off... but his performance was very good nonetheless. I kept waiting for him to perform "Come On Get Higher" which he FINALLY did for his last song. He also mashed up a few current pop songs into one of his recent songs that he performed which was ... creative (that's all I am going to say).

And finally... the moment we've been waiting for! OneRepublic! Today was actually Ryan Tedder's birthday, too! So we all sang a Happy Birthday song to him before the band came on stage, haha. They came in with a bang and it was really cool! The way they performed "Apologize" was AMAZING. I wish I would have recorded but at the same time I'm glad I took the time to enjoy and not worry about technical stuff. Ryan Tedder kept coming in really close towards the crowd and we kept thinking he would like run through everyone's hands and stuff like Will Anderson did, but not really. BUT I still got to touch Ryan Tedder's arm LOL I sound like a freak but honestly when you're SO close to someome this famous, all you want to do and can think of is to get like a piece of them HAHA. I think though, that Ryan Tedder has a horrible sense of humour. He kept trying to make comments towards certain things but honestly I can sense people found it offensive. But whatever - I was not going to let careless remarks ruin this concert! Even if these were remarks came from one of my most admired artists ever sigh .... But they are coming up with a new album! This 'gig' was OneRepublic's last performance before they start recording their new songs and they performed one of their upcoming songs which I really liked! And even though Ryan Tedder was kind of a;lsdkfjsdk today (like all human beings are, I guess...) it was just amazing getting to see him so up close! Haha! And they performed "Good Life" and that made me really happy!! Ryan Tedder also told the crowd that when his manager told him that they were offered a gig on his birthday (today), he didn't want to do it... until he heard that it was in San Francisco. OHYEAH and at the end of the OneRepublic peformance, this one guy was throwing off drumsticks signed by Ryan Tedder and Thomas got a hold of one! Haha lucky him!

Artists become very crazy on stage - except the wonderful Michelle Branch and the cool Andrew Allen. Up to the end of the concert Kate, Thomas, and I have been standing on our feet for nearly four and a half hours. Something was definitely fishy with Will Anderson (especially when he almost like fell one of the people he high fived). Ryan Tedder was... kind of like Isaac Slade when I saw the The Fray concert so I guess it wasn't that bad. But I'm just not used to seeing calm-genre music people act so crazily, haha. I guess it's like myself - how I listen to both weird rock and roll-y stuff yet I admire classical music a lot, haha. There was only one time Matt Nathanson was being strange but I guess he was alright. I just wished he shaved though he looks so scary like an old man and looks much nicer with a clean cut.

I need to develop my film photographs. And San Francisco is such a beautiful city it's crazy.
I might write more haha and I might not. But I LOVED today! Definitely a 10 out of 10 experience!! :)
