Okay so you know how I said I wouldn't quote and quote and quote stuff? Well, I kind of have to for this to work, but I'll still have my responses :D
So basically the title says it all, what drives our life? Warren starts off with what usually drives an average person's life - guilt, resentment/anger, fear, materialism, and the need for approval.
Guilt - that people allow their past to control their future, and spend their lives running from regrets and hiding their shame. However, though we may be products are our past, we are not prisoners of it! "God's purpose is not limited by your past. He tuned a murderer named Moses into a leader and a coward named Gideon into a courageous hero... [He] specializes in giving people a fresh start". 我最近有在發現,如果跟以前認識的人講話,我就會變成那特別害羞的人,因為一直以來,那些人只知道那害羞的我,而不是現在真正的我。。。
Resentment & Anger - Warren basically says that people hold their bitter feelings in, by keeping them hidden inside their hearts, or exploding it onto others , both, by the way, which are unhealthy. "Listen: Those who have hurt you in the past cannot continue to hurt hou now unless you hold on to the pain through resentment. Your past is past! NOTHING can change it. You are only hurting yourself with your bitterness. For your own sake, learn from it, and then let it go".
Fear - Because of this, "fear-driven people often miss great opportunities because they're afraid to venture out". ... 像我害怕的母親 - 不讓我跟我妹跟較會到山上去 'discover' God [ㄏㄏ..]
Materialism - err that is pretty self-explanatory. ".. God says the most valuable things in life are NOT 'things'".
The Need for Approval - like peer pressure and expectations to live up to. "Unfortunately, those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it". Jesus says "No one can serve two masters". "Being controlled by the opinions of others is a guaranteed way to miss God's purposes for your life". I definitely have learnt a lesson from this junior year.
"I know what I am planning for you... ' I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future ' ".
